Music

Girl Power:
Beyonce
Some of Beyonce's most influential and empowering songs for girls and women across the globe are "If I Were a Boy" and "Run the World (Girls)." Not only does she have girl power in her songs, but she herself runs and plans everything that has to do with her career: her concerts, producing her songs, and her music videos.

Hip Hop & Rap:
Soulja Boy
I remember Soulja Boy being especially popular when I was in elementary school and all the sixth graders would listen to his song "Crank Thank" on the bus. This rap song was number 1 on the billboard hot 100 chart in the year 2007.

Nineties:
Spice Girls
The spice girls, a UK girl band, ruled the 90's with their catchy tunes and unique dress sense. The song that most people are familiar with is "Wannabe," with the music video having over 400 million views on youtube.

Electronic-Producer/  DJ Culture:
Marshmello
I would add Marshmello to this category because he both produces and DJs popular music heard on the radio and streamed on many platforms today. His most popular song, "Happier", came out in 2018 and has been listened by over one billion people on Spotify alone. His songs usually feature popular/ mainstream artists singing to his track.

Punk:
Green Day
Having written many songs with hundreds of millions of views and streams, Green Day has been successful since 1986. The songs that people are most familiar with are "Basket Case" and "American Idiot." Their music has a rock component with an edge and a bit of rebellion mixed together to create the genre punk.
